Protein skimmers have the important task of removing organic pollution, such as protein compounds, occurring in the water cycle before they break down into nitrogen compounds (such as nitrate) due to biological decomposition processes. Nitrate and phosphate filters reduce high levels of nitrate and phosphate pollution in the aquarium water. Lime and calcium reactors increase the calcium concentrations and the alkalinity in the aquarium in a simple and safe manner.
